Assigning Users, Groups, or Contexts to the ZfS Management Role

By default, the ZfS Management role includes five tasks:

Initially, you should plan to assign the Admin user to the ZfS Management role. Other users can be assigned to this role as needed.

Typically, the Admin user is set up to act in the ZfS Management role throughout the entire eDirectory tree, which gives the Admin user tree-level scope. Other users could be given smaller scopes (portions of the eDirectory tree) where they are permitted to act in the ZfS Management role.

After setting up role-based services and the ZfS Management role in iManager:

  1. In the left frame, expand Role Management > click Modify Role to display the Modify Roles page:

    Modify Roles page

  2. In the right frame, click Members to display the Modify Members page:

    Modify Members page

  3. In the Name field, browse to and click the Admin object to place it in the Selected Objects box at the bottom of the frame > click OK to add it to the list of members on the Modify Members page.

The check mark by the Admin object indicates that the next action will be applied to it.

  4. In the Scope field, browse to and click the Tree Root object to add it to the Admin object on the Modify Members page.

In addition to users and groups, you can add container objects to the list, so that all users and groups in the container are granted the ZfS Management role. When you add a container object to the list, you can select Inheritable so that the ZfS Management role is available to users and groups in any container objects below the selected container object.

You can also provide multiple scopes for users, groups, and container objects.

  5. Click OK to add the Admin user to the list of members > click OK to return to the Modify Roles page.

  6. Repeat Step 2 through Step 5 for additional TED administrators, containers, and scopes, as needed.

  7. Click Roles and Tasks in the top iManager frame to see that the ZfS Management role has been added to the list.

For instructions on the administrative tasks that can be performed by users who are granted the ZfS Management role, see "Novell iManager" in "Policy and Distribution Services" in the Administration guide.
