Upgrading Management and Monitoring Services

Before you upgrade from ZfS 2 to ZfS 3 Management and Monitoring Services:

The ZfS 3 Management and Monitoring Services installation program will automatically upgrade an existing ZfS 2 to ZfS 3 Management and Monitoring Services. However, you will need to manually uninstall the ZfS 2 ConsoleOne® snap-ins and install the ZfS 3 ConsoleOne snap-ins. For more information on installing ZfS 3 Management and Monitoring Services, see Installing and Setting Up Management and Monitoring Services.

Before installing Management and Monitoring Services, you might also need to perform the following task:

If you already have Management and Monitoring Services installed and you want to upgrade NetWare® 5.1 to NetWare 6, then you need to perform the following task:

Unloading the Management Server

If you are installing ZfS 3 Management and Monitoring Services on a server that already has ZfS 2 running, you need to first unload the Management server.

  1. If restarting the server is not feasible, make sure all ServiceLoader processes are exited. At the server console prompt, enter

    java -show

HINT:  There are times you could see a process displaying the status of "exiting" in the java -show display. If this condition persists, the only solution is to restart the server.

You can use java -exit to terminate all other Java* processes. Unload Java, if all the services are not closed.

  2. Enter unmw to unload all ZfS components.

  3. Ensure that the TRAPRCVR.NLM file is unloaded. To check this, go to the server console command prompt and enter m traprcvr.nlm. If the module is loaded, the information about the NLMTM will be displayed. To unload the TRAPRCVR.NLM file, go to the server console command prompt and enter unload traprcvr.nlm.

  4. Switch to the Sybase* process by pressing Ctrl+Esc > enter q to terminate the Sybase database engine.

  5. Run the installation program to install Management and Monitoring Services to the ZfS 2 server.

Updating the NWSETENV.NCF File

If you are upgrading a ZfS 3 Management and Monitoring Services Site server from NetWare 5.x to NetWare 6, you need to first edit the MWSETENV.NCF file, then restart the services. The MWSETENV.NCF file is located in the SYS:\ZENWORKS\MMS\MWSERVER\BIN directory.

Make the following modifications:

  1. Uncomment the following lines:

    envset mwxbpath = install_volume:\$MMSDIR\LIB\CORBA\VBJCOSEV.JAR
    envset mwxbpath = $mwxbpath;install_volume:\$MMSDIR\lLIB
       \CORBA\VBJORB.JARenvset mwxbpath = $mwxbpath;install_volume:\$MMSDIR\LIB\CORBA
       \VBJAPP.JAR
  2. Comment the following line:

    envset mwcorbapath = SYS:\JAVA\LIB\VBJAPP.JAR;SYS:\JAVA\LIB
       \VBJORB.JAR;SYS:\JAVA\LIB\VBJCOSEV.JAR
  3. Restart the services.

For more information on manually restarting the services, see "Management and Monitoring Services" in the Administration guide.

  4. Proceed with upgrading the server from NetWare 5.x to NetWare 6.
