8.4 Viewing and Managing the NetWare Registry

The NetWare registry is a database of setup and configuration information that determines how the NetWare server and applications on this server will run. The following figure shows an example NetWare Registry page.

Figure 8-2 Example NetWare Registry Page

To access the NetWare Registry page, click the NetWare Registry link in the navigation frame under the Manage Applications heading.

Key information shows keys and values for your server, performance, and other dynamic data.

Operational information shows the overall details about the NetWare registry for your server, such as the version, number of records, keys, and values, the file size, daemon information, and file location.

If any problems are noted when you run the consistency checker, contact a Novell support provider for actions to take.

Flushing the registry lets you immediately write any unsaved registry changes to disk rather than waiting for the next CDBE flush time. CDBE flush time is a Set parameter that can be set to a value between 9.9 seconds and 29 minutes 39.6 seconds. The default CDBE flush time is 4 minutes 56.6 seconds. If there are no unwritten registry changes, flushing the registry does not write anything to disk.

If you are instructed by a Novell support provider to edit the registry keys or values, unload portal.nlm and reload it with the /regedit switch. You can then traverse the registry to the key or value that you want to change and edit the registry using the applicable links on this page, or you can export (save) the keys or values to a file, make your changes, then import (load) the keys. For more information, see Export registry key (save key). and Import registry keys (load key)..

If modules are unloaded from the server and never reloaded, some Set parameter settings might be present in the NetWare registry. If you want to remove these parameters from the registry without rebooting your server, you can.

The following table specifies instructions for performing the following tasks associated with viewing and managing the NetWare registry.

Table 8-4 Tasks and Procedures for Viewing and Managing the NetWare Registry

To

Do This

View keys and values for your server, performance, or other dynamic data

  1. Click the My Server, Performance Data, or Dynamic Data link under the Keys or Values heading.

  2. Click the applicable key or value links until you reach the information you need.

Locate a specific key and value using search rather than browsing the registry

Click the Find Key or Value button and enter the required information, then click the Find Key or Value button again.

If you want the search to be case sensitive, select the Case Sensitive check box before clicking the button again.

To go to the value, click the applicable URL returned in the search page.

View operational information

Click the Operational Information button.

Run the consistency checker.

Click the Run the Consistency Checker button.

Flush the registry

Click the Flush Registry button.

Get a list of Set parameters that are in the registry but not currently owned by a running NLM program.

Click the List Set Parameters not Owned button.

Remove the parameters not owned from the registry.

Click the Yes button on the List Set Parameters Not Owned page.

Export registry key (save key).

  1. Ensure that portal.nlm is loaded using the /regedit switch.

  2. Traverse down the registry links to the key that you want to save (export).

  3. Specify a path (including a filename) where you want this information saved.

The path can be the server's local drive (for example c:\test.reg) or it can be to a NetWare volume (for example sys:test.reg).

In order for it to be recognized as a registry file, make sure the filename has a .reg extension.

Having a filename with a .reg extension is important when attempting to load or restore a .reg file that has been previously saved.

  4. Click Save Key.

This action saves (exports) the key that you are at and everything below it.

Import registry keys (load key).

  1. Ensure that portal.nlm is loaded using the /regedit switch.

  2. Traverse to a location where the Load Key button exists.

When loading a .reg file, you do not need to traverse to or reside in any particular registry key location. You can load a saved registry file no matter where you currently reside in the registry. Loading the .reg file restores all keys to the proper registry path.

  3. Specify a path to the .reg file where you have made changes.

  4. Click Load Key.
