File Download and Installation

Preparing for the Installation

To use the NOWS SBE 2.0 VMware* Virtual Appliance, you first need to install VMware software capable of running VMware virtual machines on the host system.

The host system can include Mac OS X, Linux, or Windows. Compatible VMware software includes VMWare Infrastructure*, VMware Server*, VMware Fusion* (for Mac OS X), VMware Player*, and others.

Downloading the Installation File

After properly installing and configuring VMware software on your host system, download the NOWS SBE 2.0 VMware Virtual Appliance.

Follow these instructions to download the Virtual Appliance:

  1. Go to the Novell downloads page and download the Virtual Appliance file.

  2. When the file successfully downloads to your desktop, extract the Virtual Appliance from the following file: nowssbe2.0_i386.tar.gz
  3. For Mac OS X and Linux operating systems, run the following command to complete the extraction: tar xfz nowssbe20_i386.tar.gz

    The files extract the Virtual Appliance tar.gz to a directory called nowssbe20_i386/

Running the Virtual Machine

What follows is the supported way to run the virtual machine.

NOTE: You can log into your SLES desktop at any time during this process by using the username root and password novell

Follow these instructions to start and run the virtual machine:

  1. Locate the virtual machine on your system. It will be wherever you chose to extract it to.

  2. Open and run the virtual machine. The process will vary depending on your version of VMware.

  3. When the NOWS SBE 2.0 virtual machine opens on the login screen, enter the Web address displayed on the login screen into the browser of another computer connected to the host machine. This starts the NOWS SBE 2.0 configuration process.

    IMPORTANT: If the NOWS SBE 2.0 Web configuration system is inaccessible at the provided Web address or if the address that appears is http://127.0.0.1, you must further configure your VMware network.

  4. Follow the NOWS SBE 2.0 Installation and Configuration Guide to properly configure NOWS SBE 2.0 on your virtual machine.
