Reinstalling Policy and Distribution Services on NetWare and Windows Servers

To reinstall Policy and Distribution Services, perform the tasks in the following sections:

Preparing to Reinstall Policy and Distribution Services

To prepare for reinstalling Policy and Distribution Services:

  1. Identify the NetWare® and Windows* servers that need Policy and Distribution Services reinstalled.

  2. If Java has not been unloaded on the target NetWare servers, unload JAVA.NLM.

For example, at each NetWare server's console prompt, enter:

    java -exit

IMPORTANT:  This command stops all Java processes running on the server. Verify that all Java processes can be stopped while you are installing ZfS.

  3. If you plan to reinstall the database on a NetWare server, unload the NLMTM by typing q at the Sybase* prompt on each applicable server.

  4. To bring down the ZfS services on Windows servers, click Start > click Run > enter the following command:

    zenworks\pds\bin\dservices.bat

This stops the ZfS services and deregisters them. This must be done before you can reinstall ZfS.

  5. Click OK to continue.

  6. If you plan to reinstall the database on a Windows server, do the following to stop the database:

    Server Platform Procedure

    Windows NT* 4

Do the following on each applicable Windows NT server:

    1. Open the Control Panel.
    2. Double-click Services.
    3. Stop the Novell Sybase Database service.

    Windows 2000

Do the following on each applicable Windows 2000 server:

    1. Open the Control Panel.
    2. Double-click Admin Tools > Services.
    3. Stop the Novell Sybase Database service.
  7. On the workstation you will use to install ZfS, if you have not already done so, log in to all Novell eDirectoryTM trees where you will be installing Distributors and Subscribers.

You will automatically be authenticated to all of the NetWare target servers in the trees you are logged in to during installation, so that you can select those servers for installing the ZfS software.

  8. Make sure you have authenticated to the target Windows servers or a domain containing target Windows servers.

This will enable you to select Windows servers for installing the ZfS software.

  9. Continue with Reinstalling Policy and Distribution Services .

Reinstalling Policy and Distribution Services

To reinstall Policy and Distribution Services:

  1. On the installation workstation, insert the ZENworks for Servers 3 program CD.

The startup screen is displayed. If the startup screen is not automatically displayed after inserting the CD, run WINSETUP.EXE at the root of the CD.

IMPORTANT:  If you copied the ZENworks for Servers 3 program CD structure to the installation workstation's hard drive, the path between the root of the hard drive and the first CD directory can contain only directory names that conform to the 8.3-character DOS file naming convention. If any long directory names exist in the path, the installation program will not work.

  2. Click the New Installation option > click the Policy-Enabled Server Management option.

  2. If necessary, rerun the Installation Wizard.

Select only the components that failed to install.

  3. Click Exit to close the main installation program.

  4. If you reinstalled to fix a file missing or file corruption problem, check to see if the problem has been fixed.
