Installation Prerequisites For Interoperability of ZfS 3 SP1 Server Inventory and ZfD 4 Workstation Inventory

If you are planning to install ZfS 3 SP1 in the same environment as ZfD 4, you must first understand and plan for the compatibility issues described in this section. Then you must follow the specific instructions provided to ensure success.

You must install ZfS 3 SP1 on the same location where you install ZfD 4, and vice versa.

If you want to install ZfS 3 over ZfD 4 on a Windows* NT*/2000 server, and if you have changed the SCANDIR path after installing ZfD 4 or if you have upgraded from ZfD 3.x to ZfD 4, you must apply the patch available in TID 2963354 before installing ZfS 3.

For more information on TID 2963354 , see Novell Support Web site.

For information on the deployment scenarios, see Deployment Scenarios for Interoperability of ZfS 3 Server Inventory with ZfD 4 Workstation Inventory .

NOTE:  ZfD 4 and ZfS 3 SP1 can use the same Inventory database (Sybase*, Oracle*, or MS SQL). If you have installed the Inventory database as a part of the ZfS 3 installation, you need not install a Inventory database as a part of the ZfD 4 installation or vice versa.

To administer Server Inventory and Workstation Inventory, you must install the ConsoleOne® snap-ins for both ZfS 3 SP1 and ZfD 4.

IMPORTANT:  If an Inventory server receives server inventory scans either directly from inventoried servers or through roll-up, you must install ZfS 3 SP1 on this server.

If an Inventory server should receive workstation inventory scans either directly from inventoried workstations or through roll-up, you must install ZfD 4 on this server.
