Installing ZfS 3, ZfS 3 SP1, and ZfD 4

ZfS 3, ZfS 3 SP1, and ZfD 4 must be installed in a particular order for the ZfS and ZfD products to interoperate. If you install these products in an incorrect order, or leave out one of the intermediate steps, Policy and Distribution Services or Inventory services can become disabled.

For interoperability between ZfS 3 SP1 Server Inventory and ZfD 4 Workstation Inventory, review Installation Prerequisites For Interoperability of ZfS 3 SP1 Server Inventory and ZfD 4 Workstation Inventory before you proceed to install ZfS 3 SP1 or ZfD 4.

IMPORTANT:  If you have ZfS 2 or ZfD 3.x installed, review Installing ZfS 3 SP1 Server Inventory and ZfD 4 Workstation Inventory Where ZfS 2, ZfS2 SP1, ZENworks 2, or ZfD 3. x Inventory Software Might Currently Be Installed before proceeding.

Make sure you have downloaded ZfS 3 SP1 and fulfilled the necessary prerequisites before installing SP1 as outlined in this section.

There are four possibilities for how to install ZfS and ZfD for interoperability between these two products:

• ZfD 4 Has Not Been Installed, and ZfS 3 Might Be Installed
• Only ZfD 4 Has Been Installed
• ZfS 3 Was Installed First (without SP1), Then ZfD 4 Was Installed
• ZfD 4 Was Installed First, Then ZfS 3 Was Installed (without SP1)

ZfD 4 Has Not Been Installed, and ZfS 3 Might Be Installed

If ZfD 4 has not been installed to your network, and ZfS 3 (without SP1) might be installed, for interoperability install the products in the following order:

1. If necessary, install or upgrade ZfS 3 using its installation CD.

2. Install ZfS 3 SP1 as outlined in the ZfS 3 SP1 Readme.

3. Install or upgrade ZfD 4 using its installation CD.

ZfS 3 SP1 and ZfD 4 will now interoperate correctly.

Only ZfD 4 Has Been Installed

If you installed or upgraded to ZfD 4, but have not installed any version of ZfS, for interoperability complete installation of the products as follows:

1. You previously installed or upgraded ZfD 4.

2. Install or upgrade ZfS 3 using its installation CD.

   Policy and Distribution Services and Inventory services will not be working at this time.

3. Manually install ZfS 3 SP1's ZFS3SP1POLYDIST.CPK to get Policy and Distribution Services working.

   For information on how to manually install this software package, see the ZfS 3 SP1 Readme.

4. Install ZfS 3 SP1's other .CPK files (automatically or manually).

   You do not need to install ZFS3SP1POLYDIST.CPK again.

ZfS 3 SP1 and ZfD 4 will now interoperate correctly.

ZfS 3 Was Installed First (without SP1), Then ZfD 4 Was Installed

If ZfS 3 (without SP1) was installed to your network first, then you installed ZfD 4, for interoperability complete installation of the products as follows:

1. You previously installed or upgraded ZfS 3.

2. You previously installed or upgraded ZfD 4 before ZfS 3 SP1 was available.

   Policy and Distribution Services will be working properly.

3. Install ZfS 3 SP1 as outlined in the ZfS 3 SP1 Readme.

ZfS 3 SP1 and ZfD 4 will now interoperate correctly.

ZfD 4 Was Installed First, Then ZfS 3 Was Installed (without SP1)

If you installed or upgraded to ZfD 4, then installed ZfS 3 (including performing the tasks for interoperability contained in the ZfS 3 Readme that was updated when ZfD 4 was released), complete installation of the products as follows for SP1 interoperability:

1. You previously installed or upgraded ZfD 4.

2. You previously installed or upgraded ZfS 3 using its installation CD.

3. Manually install ZfS 3 SP1's ZFS3SP1POLYDIST.CPK to get Policy and Distribution Services working.

4. Install ZfS 3 SP1's remaining .CPK files (automatically or manually).

ZfS 3 SP1 and ZfD 4 will now interoperate correctly.
