Florida Supreme Court selects Novell Net services software to simplify and secure its computer network

Novell Modular Authentication Service (NMAS) enables judges to access all areas of the network using the combination of strong password and biometrics authentication security

PROVO, Utah — Jan. 3, 2001 — Today Novell announced that the Florida Supreme Court has selected Novell Modular Authentication Services (NMAS) to secure the District Courts of Appeal and State Supreme Court WAN network. NMAS is a robust security framework that delivers a single point of administration for managing, accessing and grading password and biometric authentication solutions. Using a combination of NMAS and Identix’s fingerprint biometric security solutions, Florida State Supreme Court judges and other network users can securely access all areas of the network using a combination of strong passwords and fingerprint authentication. This allows them to effortlessly access sensitive data and information by combining something they know, ‘passwords’, with something they are, ‘fingerprint’. Installation of the software has begun and are expected to be completed network-wide by the end of January 2001.

“We chose NMAS for our network to enable judges access to all areas of the network using a combination of strong password and fingerprint biometric authentication security. The seamless integration of Identix’s biometric security solutions with NMAS allows us to provide a heightened level of security,” said Alan P. Neubauer, Senior Network Support Analyst at the Office of the Florida State Supreme Court.

Based on Novell eDirectory, NMAS provides multi-factor authentication and Graded Authentication, which greatly increases the security of Florida Supreme Court’s network. NMAS supports a number of authentication methods allowing the Office of Florida State Supreme Court to combine and manage any number of password, token, X.509 certificate, and biometric login methods to specifically limit access to any data, application, or user on its network. NMAS enables Florida Supreme Court to support and manage new security devices in a central place, demonstrating the value of Novell eDirectory for managing access to network services, data and information. NMAS is available on Windows NT/2000 and NetWare platforms. For more information on NMAS visit www.novell.com/products/nmas/.
