1.11 GroupWise on Windows

1.11.1 Server Only Profiles on Windows

When GroupWise is on Windows, the Server Only model must be used. The preferred backup connection is Samba Server. If required, you can use Windows NFS instead. Information for both options are provided in this section.

1.11.2 Prerequisites

  • Create a backup data directory on the GroupWise Disaster Recovery server

  • (Preferred) Install Samba Server on the GroupWise Disaster Recovery server

  • (Alternate) Install Server for NFS on the Windows Server

1.11.3 Create a Backup Data Directory on the GroupWise Disaster Recovery Server

You will need to create a directory on the GroupWise Disaster Recovery server for the backup data. The name of the profile will be used to create sub-directories for each profile. For example:

mkdir /reload/

Install and Configure Samba Server on the GroupWise Disaster Recovery Server

Samba Server is the default or preferred method for backing up data with GroupWise Disaster Recovery when GroupWise administration is installed on a Windows server.

To install and configure Samba Server:

  1. Log in to the GroupWise Disaster Recovery Server.

  2. Open YaST, and click Samba Server.

  3. Provide a workgroup or domain name, and click Next.

  4. Choose a Samba Server Type, and click Next.

  5. Set Service Start to During Boot, and click OK.

  6. When prompted, add the Administrator “root” password, and click OK.

Set Up the Samba Share

To create the share point for the domain and post office folders:

  1. Open the Nautilus File Browser and navigate to the parent directory of the profiles. For example:

    /reload
    /reload/po
  2. Right-click the parent directory to be shared and select Properties.

  3. Select the Share tab.

    1. Enable Share this folder, and give it a share name.

    2. Enable Allow other people to write to this folder, and click Create Share.

  4. When prompted, click Add the permissions automatically.

  5. Configure the restore area in GroupWise Administration. For information, see In GroupWise Administration.

NOTE:The referenced section for the SAMBA connection in GroupWise is for a Post Office, but you will use the same process when connecting the share for your domain profile.

Now, set up a shared directory for the domain in the same manner using a different name for the domain sub-directory (steps 1-5.)
