Specifying SNMP Configuration

Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is used to remotely monitor and manage IP devices across a network. Enabling SNMP allows others to manage objects from any SNMP manager utility, such as ManageWise®. The SNMP agent for NNTP is NEWSSNMP.NLM, located in the SYS\SYSTEM directory. If you want your NetWare News Server to be visible on an SNMP network, you must specify SNMP configuration for your server.

To configure SNMP for your server:

  1. Copy the NNTP.MIB file to the directory that you want to use to view MIB files.

The NNTP.MIB file is in NOVONYX\SUITESPOT\BIN\NEWS.

  2. Compile the NNTP.MIB file.

  3. From the General Administration page, click the News Server server name button > Server Preferences > SNMP Setup.

  4. Type a description for your server, for example, News Server.

  5. Type the name of your organization.

  6. Type the physical location of your machine, for example, the building address.

  7. Type the name of the person to contact about this server.

Usually this is the server administrator.

  8. To make your server visible on the SNMP network, click SNMP Monitoring On.

Take your server off the network by clicking SNMP Monitoring Off. Enabling SNMP allows others to manage objects from any SNMP manager utility screen.

  9. Click OK.
