To grant or deny explicit rights to an object or property

  1. Right-click the object that you want to control access to click Trustees of This Object.
  2. In the list of trustees, select the object whose rights you want to grant or deny click Assigned Rights.
  3. If the object whose rights you want to grant or deny isn't listed as a trustee, click Add Trustee select the object click OK.
  4. Fill in the Rights Assigned To dialog box click OK. For help with this, depending on whether you are controlling access to a container or leaf object, see Rights Assigned To (Container Object) or Rights Assigned To (Leaf Object).
  5. In the Properties dialog box, click OK.

Denying a right does not prevent the trustee from effectively having that right through security equivalence. For example, the trustee might belong to a container or group that has explicit or inherited rights to the object or property. You might want to check the trustee's effective rights to this object or property (see Related Topics below).
