OCD Network Systems debuts family of high-performance network caching products
Dayton, OH
(Jan. 24, 2000)OCD Network Systems Inc, announced today that it has entered into a formal agreement with Novell, Inc, of Provo, Utah, to offer high performance network caching appliance products based on the Novell Internet Caching System. These caching appliances marry Novells industry leading caching platform with OCDs extensive experience with the development and support of high-performance Internet/Intranet communications products.
The caching appliance product line created by OCD from this partnership will be available via OCD under the trademark STRATACACHE.
Caching is the process of providing pre-emptive intelligent network content storage, and the retrieval and acceleration of frequently accessed Internet or Intranet web content on local network hosts.
Caching engines such as Stratacache greatly accelerate the speed at which end users can access web content, and help to significantly reduce the ongoing costs which businesses pay for Internet/Intranet communications.
The Stratacache caching appliance provides for a simple "plug and play" connection to an existing network infrastructure and scales to allow for the clustering of multiple caching appliances for extremely high bandwidth or large enterprise redundancy solutions in major electronic commerce or corporate Internet/Intranet environments.
Pricing on the various models and configurations available within the Stratacache product family are based on the Internet/Intranet traffic requirements of the specific network. Base Stratacache acceleration engines start at $6,000 with high-end, carrier class units approaching the $150,000 $200,000 price range.
"As companies extend their traditional business to the Internet they absolutely need to ensure a positive Web experience for their customers," said Dave Trotter, vice president, worldwide OEM sales, Novell, Inc. "OCDs high performance Stratacache solution, based on the Novell Internet Caching System, directly addresses the need to deliver Web and Internet content quickly and cost effectively. Caching is increasingly important to the performance of the Internet infrastructure as services like multimedia streaming, content filtering and advertising injection grow in popularity"
According to Chris Riegel, OCD Chief Technical Officer, "Recent government statistics show Internet traffic is doubling every 100 days, and the demand for content is outstripping the networks ability to deliver. Caching appliances such as Stratacache will play a vital role in ensuring that the Internet remains a functional tool for commercial use. Since Stratacache dramatically reduces network traffic, increases network efficiency and lowers communications costs, this is an especially valuable network tool for e-commerce, Internet service providers, company Intranets, or any other organization where the fast, effortless and cost-effective delivery of Web-based content is essential."
