Dallas, TX - January 20, 2000 -- Perot Systems Corporation (NYSE: PER) announced today that it is partnering with Novell, Inc. (NASDAQ: NOVL) to deliver directory-enabled Internet and network solutions to customers. Through this alliance, Perot Systems will offer its virtual private network (VPN) solution using Novell technology.
Perot Systems' solution lies in transferring back-end applications from private-leased lines onto the Internet using virtual private network technologies. Through its VPN technology, the company is facilitating remote employee access to corporate data, thus reducing costs associated with maintaining legacy networks, and forging relationships with customers and suppliers over the Internet.
Ross Perot, chairman, president, and CEO of Perot Systems, said, "By partnering our technology capabilities with Novell's leading directory-enabled networking software and services, we can offer faster, less expensive solutions for our customers and help them take advantage of e-business opportunities on the Internet."
Perot Systems is teaming with Novell as part of Novell's Consultant & Systems Integrator (CSI) Program as an alliance partner to work with Novell to securely integrate Novell's NDS eDirectory with enterprise resource planning (ERP), supply chain, customer relationship management (CRM) and other business solutions.
"Through the Novell CSI program, we are partnering with Perot Systems to join our companies' strengths to deliver the solutions that meet our customers' business needs," said Eric Schmidt, Novell chairman and CEO. "Perot Systems' innovation with VPNs is well recognized in the industry and is an outstanding complement to Novell's technology and service expertise."
A VPN allows a global workforce to access remote applications quickly and affordably over the Internet. Perot Systems is currently in the process of deploying an internal VPN that will eventually link its branch offices and remote users internationally. Customers, partners and vendors will also gain future access to Perot's systems, thus allowing them to share information and conduct business online at a reduced cost compared to private network solutions.
