Metastorm delivers tool that enables Novell GroupWise users
to fight e-mail overload

Metastorm infowise to be introduced at Novell’s BrainShare 2000

March 26 - 31, Salt Lake City, UT.

Salt Lake City, UT March 27, 2000 --

Metastorm today announced Metastorm infowise™, an innovative knowledge management tool for Novell’s® GroupWise®, at Novell BrainShare 2000. Metastorm infowise, featuring Intel Corporation’s Intel® Automatic Organizer Software, acts as an electronic mailbox assistant to address the problem of information overload in the corporate environment.

Metastorm infowise offers a better way for users to capture and utilize knowledge buried in e-mail messages, attachments, folders, appointments, tasks and notes. infowise quickly searches through all the messages and attachments in a user’s GroupWise desktop, based on the information a user needs, and presents a collection of related data to solve a problem, complete a task or answer a question.

Utilizing sophisticated pattern matching technology and statistical analysis, infowise organizes a user’s mailbox. infowise provides a simple-to-use interface that lets the user find relevant information by providing examples. The more infowise is used, the more it applies learning from past placements and searches to future requests. Cross-referencing, dynamic updating, and an understanding of linguistics and logical analysis ensure that searches are as specific or wide reaching as the user requires. infowise acts as a personal assistant and helps users regain control of their e-mail environment by moving them to a more productive, task-oriented mode.

"Most of us hold so much information in our inboxes that we just can’t remember where it’s all stored. This means that locating relevant items can be anything from just time consuming to very stressful," said Brian McPhee, vice president of marketing at Metastorm. "With infowise you won’t need to struggle with organizing your messages, attachments, and tasks. You can focus on what you need to do to meet the increasing demands of your job."

"When looking for ways to enhance user productivity, Intel researchers were intrigued to learn how much time users spend searching previously read e-mail for valuable information. Intel Architecture Labs took this need and developed Intel Automatic Organizer, a tool with the potential to enhance every employee’s productivity," said Shane Wall, director and general manager, Applications and Services Development Lab, at Intel Corporation. "By teaming with Metastorm and Novell, we are able to accelerate the delivery of this technology to the marketplace, so GroupWise users can fight information overload and take the first step towards making the PC a personal assistant."

"Metastorm infowise is a key component in Novell's commitment to give GroupWise customers access to relevant information, anytime and anywhere - allowing them to simplify information management on the Net," said Leif Pedersen, director of product management for Novell GroupWise. "The amount of information available to today's businesses is massive; but that information has little value unless it can be harnessed into knowledge that is both relevant and useful. The combination of infowise and the GroupWise knowledge platform bridges this gap between information and knowledge to help drive informed business decisions."

Metastorm will demonstrate the infowise Personal Edition during the BrainShare 2000.

It will be available March 27, 2000 as a download from the Novell and Metastorm Web sites. The infowise Enterprise Edition will be released soon. Beyond assisting you personally, the Enterprise Edition allows you to collaborate with others by sharing infowise knowledge across the enterprise.
