XIOTECH JOINS NOVELL, GADZOOX, VERITAS SOFTWARE, AND EXABYTE TO DEMONSTRATE A COMPLETE SAN SOLUTION AT BRAINSHARE 2000
SAN Solution Demo Includes Server Clustering and Integrated Backup
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn., March 29, 2000
--XIOtech®, a virtual storage pioneer and manufacturer of the first architected storage area network (SAN) MAGNITUDE, together with Novell, Gadzoox, VERITAS Software and Exabyte will demonstrate a complete, enterprise SAN at BrainShare, Novell's premier IT event held this week in Salt Lake City.
The demonstrated solution, which was recently tested in the VERITAS SAN Integration Lab (iLAB), will include Novell NetWare servers running NetWare Cluster Services (NWCS), which is Novell software designed to maximize network uptime. The servers will connect to 1.6 terabytes of storage within the XIOtech MAGNITUDE SAN through a Gadzoox Capellix 3000 Modular Fibre Channel switch. The data generated by the server clusters will be backed up to Exabyte's X200 SAN-ready tape library through the use of VERITAS Backup Exec software.
"Ensuring interoperability of all components in a SAN architecture remains paramount to the broad acceptance of SANs in the marketplace," said Richard Blaschke, executive vice president of marketing for XIOtech. "The functionality and interoperability of this joint solution from five industry leaders shows that complete SAN solutions are deliverable to customers today."
"The centralization of data in a SAN solution dramatically improves backup operations by removing the complexity involved in backing up distributed data storage," said Robin Purohit, director of product management for SAN and clustering for VERITAS Software.
"The complete solution offered by the five partners, and recently tested in our iLAB, will
allow our customers to immediately take advantage of the freedom that an open SAN can deliver," continued Purohit.
"Our commitment to developing the SAN market focuses on state-of-the-art technologies and products which we believe lead the market in open-system interoperability. By achieving a broad level of compatibility in the industry, we can help enable the ease-of-integration that is essential to the successful deployment of SANs," said Dave Tang, vice president of marketing for Gadzoox. "This demonstration is a powerful step in extending SAN technology across the enterprise. The integration and certification of all five vendor's products into a complete solution gives our customers comfort in knowing that interoperability issues will never enter into the picture."
"BrainShare is a perfect forum for this type of demonstration. The goal in hosting this type of IT event is to raise awareness for attendees of the potential for Net services-enabled applications," said Michael Bryant, director of product marketing for Novell. "This solution is a significant step toward training attendees on a complete enterprise SAN that includes everything from servers on the front end, to data backup on the back end, and everything in between."
BrainShare is being held from March 26-31, 2000 at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. The complete SAN solution featuring products from XIOtech, Novell, Gadzoox, VERITAS Software and Exabyte will be demonstrated in the Novell Technology Lab.
