SecuGen Integrates Fingerprint Technology into Novell Modular Authentication Service
San Jose, CA, November 13, 2000 SecuGen Corporation (www.secugen.com), a leader in the biometrics industry, positioning itself as a Total Biometric Solutions provider announced today that it has entered into an alliance with Novell, Inc., the leading provider of Net services software. The agreement will provide SecuGen with the opportunity to integrate its fingerprint biometric technology into Novells Modular Authentication Service (NMAS), which supports Windows NT 2000, NetWare, Linux, and Solaris.
Providing multi-factor authentication and Graded Authentication to Novell eDirectory, the Novell Modular Authentication Service (NMAS) greatly increases the security of your network. Using this versatile authentication management solution, you can combine any number of password, token, X.509 certificate, and biometric login methods to specifically limit access to any data, application, or user on your network.
As companies increasingly rely on the Net for storing, sharing and accessing sensitive information the need for secure authentication is paramount," said Bob ODell, director of product management, Novell Inc. "Security practices are evolving from something you know, such as a password, to something that you are, such as SecuGens biometric fingerprint solutions. Being able to support and manage new security devices in a single place with NMAS demonstrates the value of NDS eDirectory for managing access to your network services, data and information."
"SecuGens technology allows its users to replace passwords with fingerprints, enhancing both system security and user convenience. The system permits remote user authentication across LANs, WANs and the Internet," explains Jim Kawashima, Director of Strategic Partnerships for the SecuGen Corporation. Terry Dennis, SecuGen General Manager, adds, "Our goal is to leverage the power and benefits of Novell Directory Service (NDS) to provide the best biometric solution available. Biometric technology will increase both the actual security and the perceived security for NMAS, giving Novell a decisive edge over its competitors in the network systems market. Heightened convenience and security offered by SecuGens biometric solutions will help Novell to expand its already substantial customer base and offer a practical, workable biometric interface to the 93 million users already connected to NMAS servers."
