Protocom ProSchedule  a Novell NDS eDirectory aware server console scheduling application.

 

BrainShare 2001 - Salt Lake City, Utah – March 19th  - In ‘real world’ networks the execution of remote tasks can be time consuming and difficult to manage.

ProSchedule for NetWare takes advantage of Novell’s global directory, Novell® NDS® eDirectory™ to simply spread distribution of server console tasks and significantly reduce the amount of time it takes to perform remote server installations and routine maintenance. Protocom will be demonstrating its scheduling technology in the Technology Lab of Novell’s BrainShare® 2001 conference, hosted March 18-23 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

 

Server console operations do not always occur as expected, making it vital that your scheduling product can provide an effective and easy mechanism for supplying feedback to one or more central locations, regarding the state of scheduled server tasks.   Employing SNMP as the alert mechanism, support staff can see at a glance, using the existing network management products, whether the schedule server tasks were accomplished.   In addition to the SNMP notification, ProSchedule maintains a details log file on each server which can be reviewed from the server console, or through Novell’s graphical NetWare® Administrator tool.

 

Support staff can use ProSchedule console commands to easily view the last execution (e.g. held, running, blocked, waiting etc.).

 

Network administrators can use the server console or Novell’s NetWare Administrator product to manipulate server console jobs. Using the distributed nature of eDirectory, the server can be configured to use shared schedules, enabling single change administration to large numbers of servers.  

 

Among the many features of ProSchedule:

 

·         The ability to schedule any NetWare or third party console command that can be performed manually.

·         Scheduling criteria includes combinations of time, day of the week, frequency, day of the month and week in the month.

·         Centralised configuration allows control of many servers simultaneously.  Thus reducing time and effort for the system administrator when visiting each server individually.

·         Integrated into Novell’s eDirectory and graphical administration tools.

(Tools already familiar to every NetWare administrator – same look, same feel, nothing new to learn).

·         Uses SNMP to provide feedback of job execution.  (Reduces the time to determine if a job ran on a particular server by allowing the SNMP network management console to prioritise and alert system administrators of faults or failed jobs.
