SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, (BrainShare® 2002), March 18, 2002 - ACCPAC International, Inc., a subsidiary of Computer Associates International, Inc. (NYSE: CA), today announced that its new FAXserve 7 for Novell® NetWare® is now shipping. FAXserve 7 for NetWare provides improved administration, more money saving options for desktop faxing and document imaging, along with improved integration with Novell GroupWise®. In addition, ACCPAC has entered into an agreement with Novell to provide free user licenses of Novell eDirectory with the ACCPAC FAXserve 7 product.
"FAXserve 7 for NetWare is designed with a goal of 'best in class' integration with NetWare, GroupWise and Novell's ConsoleOne® administration program," stated Marc Sciocchetti, ACCPAC assistant vice president of messaging. "Our ConsoleOne implementation makes FAXserve the easiest to manage network fax solution available for the Novell environment."
With FAXserve, users send and receive fax documents with their networked PC or laptop computer and their already-familiar e-mail system rather than relying on cumbersome local fax machines. FAXserve adds capabilities to standard e-mail such as remote fax access, fax imaging and annotation, and Internet fax forwarding. Since the product is tightly integrated with NetWare and GroupWise, network managers benefit from greatly simplified setup while end users can take advantage of e-mail-based fax management with virtually no training. This integration of network and communications technologies can represent significant cost savings for any business, eliminating paper faxes and dedicated fax lines while saving employees time and increasing their productivity. The product is popular in legal, medical and real estate as well as human resource and sales departments.
FAXserve helps companies reduce costs and streamline workflow processes particularly in eCommerce applications. As companies migrate to electronic order processing they must still support customers who demand a signed paper document. By using e-mail to manage signed fax confirmations of electronic orders, FAXserve provides simplified workflow that enhances eCommerce applications while satisfying the requirements of traditional paper-based processes.
FAXserve7 is a significant product upgrade with enhanced administrative and user features. New routing methods improve efficiency and performance when routing incoming faxes to desktops or network printers rather than fax machines. Administrators have complete system management and control from Novell's ConsoleOne management tool. Included in the many improvements in FAXserve 7 are:
- FAXserve Administration now uses Novell ConsoleOne for centralized administration of network faxing functionality from remote personal computers through the ConsoleOne interface.
- Faxes can now be routed from the server to multiple printers on the network, whereas previously only a single printer could be selected.
- Integration to leverage GroupWise functionality is provided by a new gateway installation wizard from the ConsoleOne management interface. With the FAXserve GroupWise Gateway installed, users can send faxes using Novell's GroupWise email. Received Faxes can be directly routed to a specific GroupWise mailbox.
- Installation of modem/fax devices is now managed by user-friendly wizards.
- FAXserve 7 includes "rendering agent" software so document attachments made in GroupWise are automatically converted to faxable images that can be viewed on a remote machine. This unique approach lifts the time-consuming conversion process normally incurred by GroupWise users. Users can also choose an image-rendering agent to create fax images of specific file attachments types, such as CAD files generated from Computer Aided Drafting software. For specialty applications like this, an option to render documents on the local workstation is available, saving the need to have an additional copy of the CAD software on the network server.
"FAXserve 7 for NetWare takes network and internet-managed faxing up a major notch in ease-of-use for Novell network managers as well as end users," said Sciocchetti. "Consider our GroupWise integration alone; it is unparalleled in that network managers do not need to install software on every PC. That makes implementation for our enterprise and Fortune 500 customers extremely fast and easy. FAXserve is the obvious - and frankly, we believe the best - choice for Novell users."
As part of the new product launch, purchasers of FAXserve 7 receive a free 250,000 user license of Novell eDirectory. Historically eDirectory has sold for as much as $2.00 per user.
Novell eDirectory is a Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP)-enabled, identity management system that simplifies and centralizes the management of user identities, access privileges and other network resources. eDirectory enables companies to extend network support to customers and partners who use the Web as their primary channel for conducting business.
FAXserve 7 is available immediately, directly from ACCPAC or through the FAXserve value added reseller channel. For more information, call 1-800-808-7000, e-mail sales@faxserve.com or visit www.faxserve.com.
