SCOTTS VALLEY, CA (March 19, 2002) - SurfControl, the number one Internet filtering company in the global security market, today announced at BrainShare 2002 that the SurfControl Content Database is integrated with the new BorderManager® 3.7 security software from Novell, the leading provider of Net business solutions. With the integration of the SurfControl Content Database along with flexible reporting and monitoring capabilities, BorderManager 3.7 users will gain improved network security and performance while they minimize legal risks.

"Today almost every organization relies on the Internet for daily communication and operations — making network security and Internet use major concerns," said Kelly Haggerty, SurfControl's Vice President of Global Product Marketing. "Inclusion of the SurfControl Content Database as part of Novell BorderManager gives organizations the power to protect their networks, improve productivity and manage risk."

BorderManager 3.7, a key component of the Novell Secure Access™ suite coupled with SurfControl's filtering solution allows organizations to control, accelerate and monitor users' Internet activity to safeguard the network against undesirable Internet content while maintaining exceptional performance levels.

The SurfControl Content Database is updated daily and is completely customizable so organizations can tailor filtering to their individual needs and their own Acceptable Use Policies. Novell BorderManager customers will have access to a database of more than 3.5 million sites in 30 categories and in 60 languages. It was created and is kept current with a combination of expert human review and automated tools.

The SurfControl Content Database is seamlessly integrated into Novell BorderManager for easy installation and together they give organizations the needed tools to effectively manage Internet access. The reporting function includes more than 50 customizable reports that are remotely accessible via a Web reporting interface. A real-time monitoring function lets network managers gain immediate insight into where users are surfing. Reports can also be scheduled for automatic publication on a company's intranet, or automatically delivered to appropriate management personnel, simplifying administration.

Based on Novell eDirectory™, BorderManager works in concert with products such as Novell iChainâ and Novell Secure Login to create a central point of management for all user identify information and access control, giving Web, wireless, dialup, VPN and client-based users secure, single sign-on access to applications databases and platforms they need.

The SurfControl Content Database is integrated in every copy of Novell BorderManager 3.7 and customers get a free 45-day trial subscription. Organizations that already have SurfControl filtering in a previous version of Novell BorderManager will receive a free technology upgrade for the remainder of their current contract when they purchase a one-year extension and maintenance contract before April 30, 2002.

"With the help of SurfControl, BorderManager enables companies to keep productivity high and reduce unnecessary network traffic by guarding against inappropriate or malicious Web content," said Richard Maddox, director of Novell's Access and Security solutions. "This identity-based Internet access control makes BorderManager a valuable component of Novell Secure Access, which allows companies to create a complete access management solution, based on users' identities."

"Our many customers, including those in the education sector, will benefit from the SurfControl Content Database upgrade in Novell BorderManager 3.7," said Haggerty. "Like businesses, school districts are now keeping a close eye on security. BorderManager, along with SurfControl's content, reporting and monitoring features, gives schools the tools they need to protect their networks while they keep kids safe online."
