OREM, Utah March 1, 2002 NetVision, Inc., a leading provider of directory-enabled security solutions, and BMC Software, Inc. [NYSE:BMC], the leading provider of enterprise management solutions, today announced that NetVision will update PATROL by BMC Software to include NetWare 6 compatibility and will provide ongoing development and support for the product. Both companies will sell PATROL moving forward. NetVision will also offer its Policy Management Suite of security solutions for the Novell eDirectory environment to PATROL for NetWare users. Integrating NetVision's security and access control solutions for eDirectory into BMC Software's PATROL will extend the value and usefulness of the directory for BMC Software's customers.
"To provide the best offering to our current and prospective PATROL for NetWare customers, we looked for a partner who had extensive expertise in this space," said Kim Roy, product manager, Enterprise Performance Management, BMC Software. "This agreement between BMC Software and NetVision ensures that our customers will have a strong management solution for NetWare moving forward. Leading edge technologies and version currency such as NetWare 6 have always been important to BMC Software, which is why we chose NetVision as a partner. I believe that this relationship will provide our customers with the best of both worlds - Depth of management of NetWare servers provided by NetVision, and the most comprehensive enterprise management solutions in the industry provided by BMC Software."
NetVision's president Todd Lawson indicated, "NetVision is the premier solutions provider for helping Novell customers with proactive directory enabled security and auditing. Enhancing PATROL® for NetWare by BMC Software means BMC Software can leverage NetVision's complementary products for real-time policy enforcement and Roles-based access control. All this will integrate nicely into their PATROL environment."
The BMC Software/NetVision announcement is also viewed favorably by Novell. Carl Ledbetter, Novell's Sr. VP of Engineering/R&D said, "Novell is excited to have BMC Software and NetVision investing in the continuing momentum of NetWare 6. NetVision has long been a supporter of eDirectory and NetWare and by working with BMC Software will bring a whole new set of capabilities to BMC Software customers. These new capabilities will be a showcase for NetWare 6 and eDirectory in a BMC Software environment. We're pleased that BMC Software is providing some leadership among its peers in the network management space in supporting NetWare and eDirectory, which are so prevalent in the Fortune 1000 accounts."
About the NetVision Policy Management Suite
The NetVision Policy Management Suite audits policy violations, reports when the violation occurred, who caused it, and what consequences resulted. The Suite automatically enforces the policy-notifying the user of the violation, logging the activity, and fixing the problem or reversing the action.
The NetVision Policy Management Suite allows administrators to focus on the important aspects of management rather than on custodial care. It eliminates many time-consuming and unproductive management tasks, the high cost of audit exceptions, and the secondary costs associated with security breaches and violations. Key capabilities include:
- Cross-platform policy enforcement-allows administrators to determine how they want their directories, file systems and operating systems to react to change. It includes support for default password requirements, default group memberships, access to corporate resources (such as trustee changes, printers, file shares, and Web content), and file access and content.
- Advanced auditing and reporting-provides flexible capabilities for determining the who, what, when, where, of policy violations, as well as the consequences of policy violations. Reports are exportable to a wide variety of platforms, including XML, comma-delimited, databases (such as Notes, SQL Server, and Oracle), e-mail, pagers, SNMP, SMTP, and others.
- Directory integration-includes real-time synchronization of passwords and user and group administration across NDS, Windows NT, Active Directory, Exchange, Notes/Domino, GroupWise, NetWare 3, and iPlanet.
