Apache Server for Linux

With the release of NetWare 6, Novell has squarely focused on supporting the Tomcat servlet/JSP container into the NetWare 6 platform. Apache Web Server is the most widely-used web server on the Internet.

Specifically, when you install NetWare 6 SP2, you get three Apache/Tomcat components by default:

  • Apache 1.3.26 for NetWare 6
  • Tomcat 3.2.2 for NetWare 6
  • Tomcat 3.3 for NetWare 6

To complete the Web-based services infrastructure in NetWare 6, you also get the Novell JVM v1.3.1 for NetWare and Perl 5 for NetWare. These components, and others available on the Novell Developer Kit, provide a strong foundation for Novell's Web-based management framework and hint at support for additional open source initiatives in the near future.

Clearly, the nature of open source projects means frequent updates and active development. The links and information here are provided to support Novell's DeveloperNet subscribers in getting to the latest and greatest on Web-based services support. In fact, Novell is already at work on a port of Apache 2.0 for NetWare. All of the source for Apache 2.0 is available here.
